As such, Jordan said that there is an element of cost and what he is asking the taxpayers to bear in some respect is a part of that cost for issuing a license whether it is revenue raising or regulatory.“I think for the most part there was some tardiness on the part of the past regime in not reviewing the licenses in the last 20 years. He then commended the Bill to the House for passage.The next speaker on the Bill was Opposition Member, Juan Edghill. Nandlall, too, hammered home the point that the first objective of the Bill was visionless. He challenged Jordan to tell the House how many Amerindians in various parts of the Hinterland Region will benefit from it the measure.He said that Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo, is from Whim, Berbice and even he would be unable to say how many persons from that area would benefit from the first objective of the Bill.In this regard, Nandlall stressed that fiscal measures must benefit all and not a small group.He called for the proposed fees in the Bill to be reduced by 50 percent.Jordan however did not acknowledge the proposed amendment by the Opposition. He said, instead, that “in life only two things are certain; death and taxes …and as it relates to taxes, no one likes to pay taxes.”He added, “What happened (yesterday) proves that when you take so long to increase taxes then it will end up being a painful exercise when moves are made to do it.”
