2021 Is A Big Year For Red Velvet Members Going Solo



Since forming in 2014 and releasing their first collection in 2015, Red Velvet has become one of the biggest girl groups in the whole world, to say nothing of their incredible success in their home country of South Korea. They are one of the few all-female acts that has managed to not only reach the top of their domestic charts, but to appear on weekly rankings in other nations, which remains a rare feat for K-pop bands.

After years of scoring hit after hit in South Korea and experiencing the beginnings of international stardom, the band is spending much of 2021 expanding their reach in different ways.

Two of the five members of Red Velvet are releasing solo music in 2021, with one already scoring a big win by doing so, while a fellow bandmate has been announced as the latest singer from the group to earn the right to do something on her own.

Just last month, Red Velvet member Wendy released her long-awaited solo debut Like Water, a five-song EP that fans of the star herself and the band snapped up. The title was her first release since suffering a debilitating fall that sidelined her for months, but clearly her following hasn’t dissipated at all during that stretch. Like Water entered the top five on the Gaon Albums chart in South Korea, and in the weeks since it first arrived, it has continued to perform well.
